Glent Shoes has taken inspiration from the rendering technology used in architecture and engineering, a solution that has not yet reached the retail market.
For decades, the market has been busy searching for profitable ways to put the largest catalogue possible on the shelves in order to cover all the specific characteristics of a naturally varied clientele. Today, new digital solutions allow this trend to be turned on its head and unique one-off production to be considered - a manufacturing process that starts and ends with a single user in mind.
The strategy adopted by Glent Shoes is based on digitalising your feet. They use a digital scanner with six cameras and a laser to produce a model. Some special software then compares the foot against their database of shoe lasts to reveal the closest size based on foot length, ball perimeter and the metatarsal area.
Glent is closer to digital craftsmanship than to the conventional concept of industrial shoemaking.
